Hilly Cow Wigwams is a small family run Glamping site set on Leyden Farm at the gateway to the Pentland Hills. Our family ‘The Barr’s’ have farmed here for over 35 years, farming quality farm assured beef cattle and sheep and a little arable to feed our own animals. Our family is passionate about farming and rural life. We hope can share our way of life with guests and educate them where food comes from, while they enjoy a countryside stay. In April we have farm tours to see new born lambs and calves, however, we are always happy to answer questions and suggest our favourite walks to see the animals. We also work with Royal Highland Educational Trust to help educate children. There is always something to see from adorable bunnies to mischievous goats. You could even try a fresh hen or duck egg. So bring your wellies, admire the view, enjoy the peace, take a walk, meet our fur and feathered friends while Glamping at Hilly Cow Wigwams.
Make your wigwam trip truly memorable by staying at Hilly Cow Wigwams. Come stay on Leyden a working farm in West Lothian, near Edinburgh. Enjoy the comfort of camping in our heated wigwams, with the beautiful views of the Forth Valley and the Pentland hills. Hilly Cow Wigwams can offer all the sights of the farm, walks and cyclist routes but is close enough to enjoy all the attractions of Edinburgh and the Lothian’s.
Posted on Tripadvisor AndrewVerified Cosy hobbit house! Loved my stay in this cosy little hobbit house. Perfect location for trips into Edinburgh. Glasgow not too far either. Then you can return to the peaceful refuge of the farm where you can see and hear the local wildlife & farm animals all around. The view is pretty stunning when the weather clears too. Large, modern shopping centre 15 minutes away in Livingston if you need anything. The Premier Inn in Bathgate was going to cost about the same for my visit. So glad I chose Hilly Cow for a much more memorable experience.Posted on Tripadvisor Kev BVerified One of the best places I've stayed One of the quaintest little places I've ever had the pleasure of staying. I've stayed in some beautiful hotels and apartments over the years but they are soulless, whilst this working farm is oozing with charm and character. We stayed in an en-suite wigwam, and we loved it. Is it basic? Yes, is it glamorous and fancy? It's actually beautiful but what really sets it off is that weathered, lived in look. I've seen these things on farms before and they look alien, they don't belong there. This place kicks that to the kerb though. These lovely wigwam huts fit right in. Amazing views across the forth valley, if you like plane watching, you're in for a treat! The communal areas are great, spacious and feel very ‘collective’ I can imagine many new friendships have been born there, feels a bit like a youth hostel type communal area and same vibe. The showers are so hot, not nasty hot, nice hot. Generally, communal areas are clean, the showers and toilets were kept pristine. I think the other thing that works for this site is that it's small, it's not pretending to be a ‘holiday park’ or campsite It simply a bit of land on a working farm with some Wigwams on it, and that's the win here. The limited accommodation limits numbers and I for one, hope they keep it that way. Sitting quietly, taking in the view was just what we needed. It's great for going into city centre and a park and ride is relatively close. A large retail park is just down the road too, chain restaurants, fast food, supermarkets, cinema etc all found there. Communication with owners was easy and no fuss, simply called to check in and told which wigwam was ours (Poppy Pig), key in door and left to go about our day. So simple, so effortless and it makes a huge difference. Hilly Cow Farm just works, it's a great place if you want a true sit back, drink in nature, experience. We will definitely be backPosted on Tripadvisor ManexbiVerified Wigwam on farm 30 min from Edinburgh Wooden wigwam with refrigerator, microwave and heating. Private bathroom in adjacent cabin that is accessed outside and table outside for you. We arrived at night and Leslie's husband looked after us very kindly and gave us tips for Edinburgh. Relaxed and pleasant stay. In the mornings the cows pass but it is discreet and not annoying. In the common building there is a complete and equipped communal kitchen that can be used, next to the dining room and living room. Barbecues are rented separately, disposable barbecues are not allowed, as it is quite windy. There is a washing machine but you have to book. The bed is plastic mats, you have to bring bedding or sacks. Amazing views. We book it on the Campsites website. Co. I stayed 5 day and loved it pack ur bags and go xPosted on Tripadvisor TheresaVerified Very comfortable and peaceful with great views, would definitely recommend. We stayed in the Maggie May wigwam which was lovely. Lesley came and collected us from the train station which was so kind and much appreciated. The deluxe wigwams are a good size and include own bathroom with shower, towel drying radiator, toilet, sink and mirror. They also supplied us with some towels and a hair dryer! Then there’s a wee kitchen area with a small fridge, microwave and 2 ring electric hob, plus sink. You get some fairy liquid and a cleaning sponge provided but no tea towel so take one, they also included a wee basket with tea, coffee, UHT milk and some cookies which was so nice. You also have a kettle and toaster in this wigwam. Also there were plates, glasses, cups, pots, pans and cutlery, everything you would need but I believe anything missing can be borrowed from the big kitchen in the main building anyway. The wigwam was clean and warm, really was a wee home from home, the fairy lights were cute and a nice touch but also there is a dimmer switch for the main light so you can create a cozy atmosphere without them too. There are plenty plug sockets for chargers etc and there is a telly with freeview and a dvd player. You can borrow DVDs from the main building where there is also some games, a pool table, dart board and a bigger tv which I believe has internet access so you can sign in to Netflix etc. We didn’t spend much time in this area and would say unfortunately this part was a little run down. There was a great park outside though and a big tube slide which was lots of fun. The wigwam we stayed in didn’t have a table (I noticed some of the other deluxe wigwams did) but we had extra pull-out beds so it could sleep 5/6 adults easily, and there is a picnic bench right outside anyway. The deluxe wigwams all have their own picnic bench and fire pit out front as well as a hot tub to the side of the wigwam, which gives plenty of privacy. The hot tub was really good, high quality and very big! At least 4 adults could sit in there comfortably. There are nice walks all around the farm and we spotted cows, sheep, goats and also some big hares at night. We brought most of our food with us but there is actually a great selection of places on Just Eat who will deliver straight to your wigwam so we were able to easily get a top up of what we needed. Overall, it was a lovely stay, friendly staff, very comfortable and peaceful with great views, would definitely recommend.Posted on Tripadvisor Pamela AVerified A brilliant location for a family holiday. My daughter and I had a wonderful three nights staying in Maisie Cow Wigwam. The location was absolutely stunning with incredible views and such peace and quiet. Our wigwam was cosy and comfortable - and we loved spending our evenings cooking on the BBQ, watching the sunsets and enjoying the games room. Because most of the other wigwams had their own bathrooms, it felt like we had the shared facilities to ourselves! They were clean, warm and easily accessed. We loved our stay and are already wondering when we can return.Posted on Tripadvisor Louttit94Verified Amazing place Absolutely amazing place! I loved every minute of it. The family that runs the wigwams also runs a fully functioning farm, and they still find time to come over and check if you're all right and have a little chat. P.S. We had the lovely visit from Maggie every morning, one of the farmer's dogs. Such a good dog-friendly place!Posted on Tripadvisor Tracy BVerified Great wee wingman Great wee break with sister and 3 kids. Booked the Tommy Trucker, enough space for 5. Hot tub was amazing, fire pit was great at night! Beautiful views from every angel. Farm tour with kids was great, even got to hold baby lambs Just born and even got free fresh eggs! Kids enjoyed park and play room. Owners were very friendly and attentive, definitely recommended for nice quiet break away!Posted on Tripadvisor Rebecca DVerified Lovely relaxing weekend away We stayed at the Hilly Cow wigwams last weekend and they were lovely. Much more spacious inside than I thought and very well equipped. We stayed in Maggie May which had a hot tub and it was so nice relaxing in there on an evening just taking in the scenery. It is a perfect location if you like the quiet of the countryside but it is still only a short train journey into Edinburgh if you also like the city, plus the Fringe was on which was a bonus. My only criticism would be the broken children's toys scattered around, some of them should have really been binned due to all the cracked plastic bits.Posted on Tripadvisor ccarolwatVerified Great Family time I did book a Deluxe wigwam as I was taking my young grandchildren. The wigwam was everything I expected. The hosts are so friendly and very helpful.
