Is bedding/linen provided?
You can choose to bring your own bedding/linen - or hire some from us. If you are bringing your own, we suggest a flat sheet, duvet and pillows or a sleeping bag and pillows.
If you’d like to hire bedding, we charge £15 for a double set (includes duvet, 4 pillows and linen), or £10 for a single (includes a sleeping bag and 1 pillow).
All bedding should be booked in advance of your stay.
How do I check in/out?
Check-in is from 2.30pm. Please call Lesley on 07824 770 568 when you arrive.
Check-out is between 10.30am and 11am. We ask that you leave your key in the wigwam door on departure. If you lose your key, there is a charge of £10. We hope you enjoyed your stay!
How do I get to Hilly Cow?
If you are driving, you can use our website find us tool, which gives step by step instructions, or a sat nav and the post code EH27 8DQ. Please follow the brown tourist signs from the A70/A71. Our site is at Leyden Farm which is located on a long, winding farm road and the mouth of the site is clearly signposted. If you are lost, call Lesley on 07824 770 568.
If you are using public transport, you can take a bus or train to the village of Kirknewton and then you’ll need a car to bring you up the hill (around 2.5 miles).
Lesley can sometimes collect you but this is not always possible. Try her on 07824 770 568.
There are various local taxi firms. A few numbers to try are: 01506 434343 / 01506 444666 / 01506 444444. Your taxi will cost around £7.
What facilities are onsite?
- Warm, heated wigwams All ahve decking, picnic bench and fire pit
- standard wigwams have one big bed for four people and a single bed
- Ensuite wigwams have two doble beds and a single bed plus a toilet and sink
- Deluxe wigwams are heated with two double beds (some also have small single) kitchen toilet with shower, two deluxe wigwams have luxury hot tub too. There is a minimum of two night stay on all deluxe wigwams.

Is Hilly Cow suitable for disabled people?
Yes; we can provide ramps up to our wigwams and there’s a suitably equipped shower room and toilet, with a wet room, handrails and a raised toilet. Our main building is fully accessible.
How do I pay for my stay?
We take a 50% deposit on booking and the remaining balance is due in cash on arrival.
I need to cancel my booking - can I have my deposit refunded?
Sorry but we do not refund deposits.
Do you have WiFi?
Free WiFi is included, however we’re in a rural setting and the connection is slow; the 4G reception here is excellent.
Can I have food delivered to my Wigwam?
There are several takeaways in the local area which deliver to us and leaflets for each are available in the kitchen here:
Domino’s - pizza
Marmaris - fish & chip shop with various meal options including pizza
La Vita Viva - Italian food
Sky Kitchen - Chinese food
There are a number of other fast food places nearby from which you can collect your order.
Can I cook at Hilly Cow?
Yes, we have a fully-equipped kitchen on site. Crockery and cutlery are also provided for you. We ask that you wash and tidy up after your meal. Deluxe wigwams have thier own hob microwave kettle and toaster.
Are fireworks allowed?
We are based on a working farm and can’t allow fireworks on site, however you will be able to see any local displays from the fantastic vantage point we have at the edge of the Pentland Hills.
What do you charge per night/per wigwam?
Our wigwams are available for hire from £50 per night, however the cost varies depending on the wigwam specification and the age and number of the occupants. Children under 3 are free and anyone aged 16 years old or over is classed as an adult. You will find availability and prices here.
Do you provide travel cots?
We have one travel cot on site so please book this in advance if it’s required.
Is smoking permitted?
We do not permit smoking in the wigwams and this includes vaping. There is a designated smoking area with sand bins so that people can safely extinguish cigarettes.
Are BBQs allowed?
Yes, however we don’t allow disposable BBQs. We only permit BBQs with legs and hire out suitable ones, providing coals etc so you are ready to get cooking!
Are campfires allowed?
Each wigwam has its own fire pit and we ask you not to move it due to fire safety reasons. We sell firewood on site.
Do you have a 24hr reception?
No but as we live on site we are around a lot of the time to help you; call us anytime on 07824770568.
Do you provide toilet roll?
Yes - our ensuite wigwams have loo roll, as do the toilets in the toilet and shower block.
Where can we buy food/supplies?
We recommend Festival Stores in Kirknewton; they will have almost everything you could need. There are also many local supermarkets in Livingston which you can drive to (around 5 miles away). We also sell breakfast baskets on our website and these contain locally sourced produce from Mark McGill, who is an excellent butcher.
We also provide tea, coffee, milk and butter in the kitchen.
Are there any extras I can add to make the wigwam holiday more special?
As well as the breakfast packs, we can decorate your wigwam with fairy lights and flowers - and we can arrange a cake or chocolates for your arrival, too.
Do you have recycling facilities on site?
We have an area for your rubbish and the bins are clearly marked with information on recycling.
Do you have parking on site?
We have ample parking but ask you kindly to avoid parking on the grass.
Are dogs allowed at Hilly Cow?
Dogs are welcome. Please look after your dog and keep it on a leash as appropriate as we are based on a working farm. We also ask that you clean up after your dog and bring a basket for sleeping. Note that only guide dogs are allowed in the amenity block/shower block etc.
We ask that you are quiet from 11pm to 8am to respect fellow glampers. If you prefer, you can take yourself inside your wigwam or go to the main building which has very thick walls! Please leave the main building tidy.
Can I walk around the farm?
At certain times of the year a farm tour may be offered. We have our own livestock and do not allow people to wander unaccompanied due to this.
